It’s a good system.

You can believe whatever the fuck you want. Just leave everyone else alone and don’t impose your beliefs on others in law, or trample on my rights and we’re all good. Your rights end where mine begin.

Let me say this again, for the hundredth time:

You can believe whatever the fuck you want.

Just leave everyone else alone and don’t impose your beliefs on others in law, or trample on my rights and we’re all good. Your rights end where mine begin.

Remember: Freedom of religion is also freedom FROM religion. Freedom of speech for people you don’t like is freedom of speech for you (when they inevitably come after you).

Being “impolite” is not a fucking crime. At least for now. Being arrested for being “impolite” is the very first step to being unable to dissent at all.

It never stops at politeness. Ever.

Posting what I think on social media is an extension of that. You can block or unfollow and go into whatever psychotic safe space bubble you want, so long as you leave everyone else alone.

If you’re militant, or authoritarian, on the side of censorship, mobbings, getting people fired, book burnings, silencing, harassment, arrest of people who upset you… then sorry, but even if your intentions are pure, you find yourself on the side of every single bad guy in all of history.

Every cult. Every totalitarian regime. Ever.

The good guys in history have protected freedom of expression, freedom of religion and the same rights for people you don’t like.

Whether it is a cartoon of Mohammed, a joke, or refusal to use pronouns.

You believe what you want.

I will likely believe your beliefs are stupid if you can’t back it up.

But I will likely leave you to be, mock you if it is proper ridiculous/funny, but for the most part, you do you. If you are being bullied by anyone, I will likely come to your defense.

I will try to be nice to you and accommodate so long as you don’t disrespect me by trying to control me.

I probably wouldn’t ‘misgender’ or draw cartoons of prophets in an ordinary situation. I will be patient, charitable, considered, and discuss things openly with you.

But if you bully me, then I will probably take up cartooning full time and call you a man and laugh in your face… because I fight for civil liberties. That has and will never change.

I will defend the indefensible purely because it never, EVER ends there. Ever. One minute, you’re de-platforming Alex Jones. Then you’re censoring women who say “biological sex is a fact” or “teenage girls tend to be drawn to destructive social contagion”.

Then, you’re censoring a mainstream news publication with an article about alleged corruption from a Presidential candidate and silencing any dissent and you are Julian Assange rotting in a jail whilst the world screams Orange Man Bad.

I’m fighting for your right to be left alone and have a secret ballot. You have no idea just how fragile all of this is, or how far down this slippery slope we are right now.

I look forward to never having to make fun of gender people ever again. For them to fuck off back to Tumblr, get back to rational and informed discussion and not make their stupidity everyone else’s problem.

In fact, I want them to stay around without power, because they’re piss-funny.

Just leave everyone else (and our kids) the fuck alone.
